RAMSEY — Music superstar Justin Bieber stunned local performers with an impromptu appearance at a charity dance benefit in Ramsey Saturday.
The 23-year-old singer sat front row at the Tribe Body dance studio to witness "A Cause for the Paws," an annual dance performance to benefit the Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge in Oakland. Video footage emerged on social media of Bieber at the event, bouncing in his chair, singing along and taking cell phone video as the Tribe Body Company dancers performed hip-hop, tap and aerial routines.
"It was super exciting. He was very attentive," said Tribe owner Tracy Flaherty.
She found out the day of the show that Bieber – who knew one of the performers – was on his way to Ramsey for the benefit, Flaherty said. Staff had to sneak him into the studio to avoid causing a ruckus during the performance, she said.
But it wasn't long before murmurs of Bieber's presence spread through the crowd of 100, Flaherty said. Spectators, some in shock and disbelief, began to text friends, and soon a small crowd formed outside the studio, Flaherty said.
Bieber slipped out near the end of the show to evade the crowd, but not before thanking and congratulating the dancers, Flaherty said.
He was the highest-profile guest the studio has welcomed since opening eight years ago, Flaherty said.
