Scammers targeting concertgoers, investigators say

Updated:

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. —

Three scammers are on the run Tuesday night after they took advantage of several Justin Bieber fans, Orlando police investigators said.

The fans bought tickets to the pop-singer's concert last month, but they didn't know the tickets were fake.

Detectives told Channel 9's Cuthbert Langley the crooks are not easy to track down because they use cellphone numbers that can not be traced, and they're not from the area.

"Because they're coming from out of town, which makes this extra difficult to try to solve," said Detective Todd Herb, of the Orlando Police Department.

Eyewitness News has learned the man is part of an out-of-town scheme to target fans.

It started on Craigslist, where a mother from out of town found an ad for four Justin Bieber tickets.

They agreed to meet and the mother gave a man $500 for four tickets, but the tickets were fake, and her daughter couldn't get into the concert.

"When you're dealing one-on-one with an ad either in a newspaper or Craigslist, you don't know what you're getting," Herb said.

Herb said the scammers come to town from Miami and Atlanta to target fans of big-named entertainers visiting Orlando.

Eyewitness News found several sites that make it easy to create fake tickets.

And with a new soccer stadium, and a busier Camping World Stadiums, detectives said they worry Orlando will see a rise in the number of victims and disappointed fans.
