The man who helped controversial politician Pauline Hanson form her One Nation party has shared an intimate insight into her personality, revealing how she loves to dance, drink dry white wine and generally 'enjoy herself'.

David Oldfield helped the 62-year-old form the right-wing party in 1997.

Twice-divorced Ms Hanson claimed they slept together in her 2007 biography, an allegation Mr Oldfield denies to this day.

Despite the disagreement, the 58-year-old has thrown his support behind his old colleague as she prepares to return to the Senate after 18 years on the outs.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, he recalled the Pauline he knew in the mid-Nineties and described her fondly.

'She can be a lot of fun, she does like to kick up her heels, she likes to laugh and enjoys a glass of white wine.

'She likes to enjoy herself,' he said.

While Mr Oldfield denies ever sleeping with her, he admitted the flame-haired politician held a certain allure for many others.

'She probably prefers the company of men over women and she used to like to go on dates.

'She has always wanted to have somebody in her life and certainly attracted lots of men.

'She always had more offers for dinner than she could ever have taken up,' he said.

Stopping short of calling her a 'flirt' as previously claimed, the former radio DJ said it was fair to say the flame-haired politician had admirers - particularly 'middle aged men'.

'She particularly held a bit of an attraction for middle aged blokes who seemed to try to want to protect her.

'It was a strange thing. She sort of exuded this kind of strength yet vulnerability that seemed to attract blokes that tried to protect her.'

Mr Oldfield was instrumental in the formation of One Nation, the right-wing party Ms Hanson now leads and is that is on track to win three seats in the Upper House after last week's election.

He was thrown out of the party in 2000 by its leader because of 'personal matters' he would not expand on.

'She had me expelled in 2000 for personal matters that got out of hand that neither of us dealt with very well. It culminated in her organising in me getting expelled.'

In her 2007 autobiography, Untamed and Unashamed, Ms Hanson claimed the pair had been intimate for two weeks in 1996.

Mr Oldfield, who is now married to TV presenter Lisa Oldfield, had not met his wife at the time and Ms Hanson was twice-divorced.

'He has always denied sleeping with her and insisted again on Monday it was not true that they had ever indulged in an affair.

'I guarantee and have always said that at no stage during the life of the party did anything like that happen.

'These are not things that one discusses. I've never stopped denying that it happened, but these are not things that should be discussed.

'Even if it happened, a gentleman doesn't discuss it.' Mr Oldfield participated in a televised lie detector test on Channel Seven in 2007 in a bid to prove Ms Hanson's claims wrong - but failed.

He admitted it was a 'stupid' thing to do and said he had apologised to his wife for ever taking part. Despite feeling like a 'tool used to sell books' in 2007, the father-of-two told Daily Mail Australia he had put his personal issues with Ms Hanson behind him.

'The needs of the nation are greater than the minor ones of David Oldfield. It's about the issues not about personalities. It's about what's important.'

While he said the pair had not spoken since 2013, he never doubted she would be put back in to the Senate and hoped she could 'make a difference'.

'It's all about what's important and not important. He said and she said, that isn't really relevant when it comes to 2016 and the state of the world and the state of Australia.'

Ms Hanson declined to comment on his remarks when contacted on Monday. Her media spokesman later declined an invitation to address Mr Oldfield's claims specifically and would not say whether she stood by her earlier claim that the pair enjoyed a night of passion in 1996.

Mr Oldfield said it was likely the politician was 'holding a grudge'.

'She'll be carrying a grudge that I'm not. She might not be over personal things that I am now. I don't mind that she feels that way,' he said.

Mr Oldfield denied sleeping with the politician and even took part in a televised lie detector test to prove that he hadn't - but failed. Mr Oldfield and Ms Hanson formed One Nation in 1997, the year after she won Queensland seat Oxley in the House of Representatives in March 1996.

She won the seat as an independent after being banished from the Liberal Party for her far-right views. In her famous maiden speech to parliament, she said she feared the country was going to be 'swamped by Asians'.

Under their control the party won 11 seats at the 1998 Queensland State Election, but Ms Hanson expelled him from the party in 2000 after an apparent disagreement.

He went on to establish One Nation NSW himself and later campaigned as an independent but resigned from politics in 2007.

He has since taken part in reality TV shows and launched a career in radio. He was suspended by 2UE 2010 after complaining that the electric fences on Christmas Island had been turned off.

Ms Hanson meanwhile lost her seat in the Lower House in 1998. In 2003 Ms Hanson was jailed for electoral fraud alongside David Etteridge who helped her and Mr Oldfield found the party.

They had their convictions overturned and she was released within months of being put behind bars.

There followed a stint on Dancing With The Stars and an appearance on Celebrity Apprentice in 2011 when she stripped off with model Jesinta Campbell to take part in a car wash.

Ms Hanson meanwhile has made a calamitous return to politics. She is expected to return to the Senate after winning nine per cent of the vote in Queensland.

Since being elected she has launched tirades against the mainstream media, complaining that she has been used as a 'punching bag' in a ranting Facebook video.

She was accused of hypocrisy after appearing to use Coles brand milk while urging voters to support Australia's farmers.

In an effort to disprove critics she shared a social media photograph of another two cartons - one of which was out of date and halal certified. She had campaigned to have the certification abolished.

Followers on Facebook pointed out the mishap, joking that like her milk, One Nation's policies were 'out of date'.

When asked about the furor by Daily Mail Australia Ms Hanson posted the journalist's phone number online and complained she had not been home for two months so didn't have time to clear out her fridge.

She refused an invitation to eat a halal snack pack after claiming '98 per cent of Australians were against Islam'.

During Channel Nine's election night coverage she sparred on air with host Lisa Wilkinson, angrily telling her she 'didn't have to listen to anything'.

Wilkinson asked what she had learned in the 18 years since she was booted out of the House of Representatives when she responded aggressively: 'You have got to be kidding... hold on a minute.

'Has the Liberal, Labor or Greens learnt anything? 'Start listening to grassroots Australians. I don't need to listen to anything.

'I know what the people are thinking and how they are feeling. So let's get this country on track.'

On Sunday it was claimed her party had copied its medical marijuana policy description from Wikipedia.
