If it felt to you as if Australian producer/songwriter Flume really was everywhere this year, you were right. To confirm it, his track, Never Be Like You, is the biggest song of the year so far.

Industry magazine Music Network has compiled a mid-year report pooling results for sales, airplay and streaming charts and Flume tops the bill.

Between January and June, Never Be Like You, which features vocals from Kai and appears on Flume's second album to reach number one in Australia, Skin, was the most played song on radio, the second highest selling single on the mainstream chart (and also made it number two on the independent charts) and the most streamed song in Australia on services such as Spotify, iTunes and Shazam.

Radio was also a fan of another Australian, Sia, whose Cheap Thrills sat at number two, behind Flume, on the airplay chart and was at number eight on the sales chart.

To prove that you could succeed even if burdened with a surname – even though, technically, confusingly, it's a group rather than a solo artist - Danish outfit Lukas Graham is the best selling song of the first half of 2016 with 7 Years.

The Danes were just behind Flume on the streaming charts with 7 Years while another Scandinavian, Swede Zara Larsson, sat at number three on airplay charts – after Flume and Sia – with Lush Life, and at 10 on the streaming charts.

Neither Australian nor Scandinavian, and with two names, Justin Bieber may appear lacking in key qualities to make it in 2016. However, the Canadian has so far overcome those obstacles to appear in the top ten of the airplay (at five), sales (at three) and streaming (at three) with his song Love Yourself.

It might be enough for him to take his own advice.
