Thirteen of the boards were designed to reflect each track from his most recent album Purpose. Johnny Bartlett pulled his inspiration from a line in Bieber's hit "Love Yourself."
A 14th board with wheels — the others are just decks — was put together by 20-year-old Nicole Whyte and gifted to him to ride. It features a black and gold design modelled after Bieber's album artwork.
Students like Evan Mills-Hughes, 20, crafted the boards as part of their curriculum at Oasis Skateboard Factory, an alternative school program helping kids build a skateboard brand.
Designs on the boards ranged from graffiti splattered song lyrics to paintings of Bieber and psychedelic patterns featuring lips. Tanisha Burk's board even made use of metallic and gold hues.
The boards, including this one from Lasasha Nesbeth, is the latest in a string of gifts orchestrated by Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment for Air Canada Centre performers. Previously, Stevie Wonder was given a custom harmonica and case with a Braille message, Drake got an OVO-branded ping pong table and Shania Twain received a saddle etched with her song lyrics.
MLSE staff said the idea behind the gift, which contained this board from Savannah Lavallee, came from Bieber's love of skateboarding and the sport's appearance in his "What Do You Mean?" video. His latest tour, they said, even features a half-pipe on stage.
The entire gift was presented in a rotating cart featuring stands for each of the boards. Its top was made to look like a Bieber record with the concert date and school name included.
