Selena Gomez Singing About Justin Bieber, The Weeknd On Album Is Made-Up Story

A website is claiming to have "exclusive" details on Selena Gomez singing about Justin Bieber and The Weeknd on her upcoming album. What it really has is obvious guesses, transparently manufactured quotes, and at least one factual error. Gossip Cop can bust the made-up story.

The narrative comes from HollywoodLife, which asserts Gomez has been "through quite a lot this past year, including her breakup with The Weeknd… and her make up with Justin Bieber," and now her next album will "reportedly be about both of them." To support this premise, the site quotes a so-called "source close to Selena," who says in totally unnatural language, "Selena Gomez is anxious and excited for fans to hear her heartfelt new album." A real person, particularly one directly connected to Gomez and "close" with her, would not use the singer's full name like that.

As for the insight offered in regards to Gomez's album addressing her exes, the questionable insider contends, "She will include some subtle, and some more obvious, references to both Justin and The Weeknd." Of course, most performers address their love lives, either directly or indirectly, in their music. This isn't so much a scoop as something anyone would guess. Another reason it seems unlikely the alleged tipster has real inside knowledge is that the seemingly nonexistent person claims the former child star is "constantly reworking tracks and adding new music and collabs, so it may not be ready to drop until the fall."

Less than a month ago, Gomez told PopSugar her new album is complete, and she's just waiting for the "right moment" to release it. In another suspect aspect of this story, the blog mentions her kidney transplant, and writes, "We can't help but wonder if her experience with that will be included on the album as well." If HollywoodLies, as it is nicknamed, really has a "source close" to Gomez, why didn't the outlet just ask about that?

The article becomes even more problematic when it brings up Gomez's recent single "Back To You," and notes that it's "rumored to be about Justin." But as first reported by The Blast in May, "Back To You" is not about Bieber. The song's lyrics were written by Amy Allen, who used one of her own relationships as inspiration before Gomez became involved. Lastly, Gossip Cop would be remiss not to remind readers that Gomez has called HollywoodLife "the worst" in an interview with Billboard. Her inner circle is more than aware that she detests the site, making it laughable that the blog keeps pretending to have "exclusives" about her.

To recap, HollywoodLies is claiming to have a scoop about Gomez's new album, but cites an untraceable "source" who, in addition to speaking in unnatural language, merely asserts the record will have references to Bieber and The Weeknd, which is what anyone would rationally assume. Additionally, some of the remarks attributed to the "source" seem to contradict what Gomez herself has said on the record. It also makes no sense that the website wonders whether the star's kidney transplant will be addressed when the blog could've just asked its "source" about that, if such a tipster really existed.

On top of all that, the report includes misinformation about "Back To You" being about Bieber. And, of course, Gomez has spoken out against HollywoodLies multiple times in the past. For all of these reasons, it's apparent this story was made-up, and poorly so.
