Analysing Justin Bieber And Hailey Baldwin's Somewhat Complicated Relationship History

Young love is a fickle and complicated beast, especially when it comes to the lives of Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin.

One minute they're on, the next minute they're off, one week Biebs is explaining to GQ that Hailey could be the woman he marries, and later she's telling the world they're better as friends.

Honestly, it's hard to keep up.

For this reason, we thought it might be beneficial (for all of our sakes) to offer somewhat of a comprehensive summary of the couple's complicated love affair, including why the pair broke up in the first place.

Here's a refresher.

Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin first sparked rumours of a romance back in late 2015 when the pair began spending a lot of time together. Biebs confirmed those rumours (and, simultaneously sent Beliebers into a tizzy) in January of 2016 when he posted this cheeky snap of the couple kissing whilst on vacation together:

Neither of the pair publicly commented on their official relationship status at the time, or openly admitted that they were "boyfriend and girlfriend," though as you can see, there was definitely something going on.

The following month, in February of 2016, amid reports of a breakup, Bieber gave a very interesting interview in which he sort of, maybe, kind of implied they he could see himself marrying Hailey. The singer told GQ:

Several publications had reported that the couple parted ways due to Bieber's rigorous tour schedule, and explained that he didn't want to be tied down whilst on tour.

Beiber corroborated this message in his aforementioned GQ interview, explaining:

"Right now in my life, I don't want to be held down by anything. I already have a lot that I have to commit to. A lot of responsibilities. I don't want to feel like the girl I love is an added responsibility. I know that in the past I've hurt people and said things that I didn't mean to make them happy in the moment. So now I'm just more so looking at the future, making sure I'm not damaging them."

(Surprisingly wise words from a man who was only 21 at the time.)

It wasn't until years later that Hailey also decided to comment on their initial relationship.

Speaking with The Times UK, Baldwin minimised their 2016 fling to something very casual and seemingly meaningless. She said, "I met him when I was really young and he was one of my best friends. Everybody knows that at a certain point in time, that turned into something else, but that just happens when you're 18, 19." Ouch.

She also elaborated on how their relationship changed after the unofficial romance ended, "It was what it was. We went through a long period of time when we weren't friends. We didn't speak for quite some time and there was a lot of weirdness that went on. We've moved past that."

In the same interview, Baldwin also revealed that the couple had come "to the realisation that we just work much better as friends," but ultimately said that "he's somebody I really cherish."

It's evident that both Baldwin and Bieber value each other very highly, though, as for what that means for the future of their romantic relationship, at this point it's anyone's bet.
