It Sure Sounds Like The Weeknd Wrote — and Scrapped — a "Beautiful" Album About Selena ...

Remember when The Weeknd and Selena Gomez broke up? (YES, YOU DO!) And then he released My Dear Melancholy and everyone was like: "Damn, that's a mood." And then he cried at Coachella and also maybe lied about almost donating a kidney to get attention. It really was a mood!

Well, Selena's ex just revealed to Time magazine that there's actually a super lovey-dovey album that he wrote when the two were still dating. The catch? It's never going to see the light of day because he just doesn't "feel" those lyrics anymore. Oomph.

From the interview:

"Prior to Melancholy, I had a whole album written, done," Tesfaye says. "Which wasn't melancholy at all because it was a different time in my life." I ask if that album, presumably recorded while he was still with Gomez, was more upbeat. "Yeah," he says. "It was very upbeat—it was beautiful."

But he scrapped the project because he's moved past that part of his life. "I don't want to perform something that I don't feel," he says. Will we ever hear it? "Never," he insists.

And so there you have it.

Understandably, this is a lot to take in considering some of his new songs contain lyrics like: "We found each other / I helped you out of a broken place / You gave me comfort / But falling for you was my mistake" and "Guess I was just another pit stop / Til' you made up your mind / You just wasted my time."

The Weeknd released My Dear Melancholy this past March. Fans, in particular, noted "Call Out My Name" as definitely being about Selena:

To recap, it was announced that the couple split up in October 2017 almost immediately after Selena was spotted going to church and grabbing breakfast with ex Justin Bieber.

Since they broke up last fall, they've both been linked to their exes. The Weeknd was most recently spotted kissing ex Bella Hadid in Cannes earlier this month after some rumored ~canoodling~ at Coachella between the two (which Bella denied). And as for Selena, again, there was the whole great #Jelena saga of this past year as well.

As far as My Dear Melancholy goes, The Weeknd still won't confirm that it's about Selena. The singer told Time: "I don't want to open that Pandora's box, talking about relationships."

Well, I guess we still have those old Met Gala pics?
