Ariana Grande has discussed the attack on her Manchester concert for the first time, describing it as 'the absolute worst of humanity'.
On May 22, 2017, a suicide bomber detonated a homemade shrapnel bomb as fans streamed out of Grande's concert at Manchester Arena. Twenty-two people were killed and more than 500 were injured.
In a candid interview with Time magazine nearly a year on from the tragic incident, the 24-year-old No Tears Left To Cry singer said: 'Music is supposed to be the safest thing in the world. I think that's why it's still so heavy on my heart every single day.
'I wish there was more that I could fix. You think with time it'll become easier to talk about. Or you'll make peace with it. But every day I wait for that peace to come and it's still very painful.'
Grande's manager Scooter Braun, 36, had previously spoken about the aftermath of the terror attack, admitting she 'suffered from trauma' and found it incredibly difficult as she met 19 injured concert goers and families at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital following the attack.
Speaking to the Big Questions with Cal Fussman podcast, Braun said: 'When she found out that fans of hers had died she was so sad. She cried for days, she felt everything — every face they announced, every name, she wore on her sleeve. Every bit of emotion because that's who she is.'
The rest of Grande's tour was cancelled and initially after the attack, Braun revealed that Grande never wanted to perform the songs or the outfits she wore on that night but later agreed to do a tribute concert for the victims, telling him: 'If I don't do something, these people died in vain.'
The concert, One Love Manchester was held on June 4, 2017, and featured performers including Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Coldplay, Little Mix, Robbie Williams and Liam Gallagher. More than 55,000 fans attended and the concert raised over £2million.
Grande and members of her crew got bee tattoos in tribute to the Manchester victims and in her first single since the attack, No Tears Left To Cry, she paid tribute to the victims by featuring a worker bee at the end of the music video.
