I work as a sales associate at a large box store in Victoria. They have been using the same short list of about 40 "popular" songs for the store sound system, over and over, since I started working there more than a year ago. It is so bad now that I wake up in the night with the songs playing in my head. Apparently the head office back East buys the music as some kind of package, and cannot or will not change it.
Can someone please tell me why, in this digital age, when it's possible to program a constantly changing variety of music, some stores continue to wash us with a boring soup of unchanging, innocuous music?

The repetition of the same sound, like slowly dripping water, is a known form of torture. So why would stores choose to broadcast the same "music" for months, when there are thousands of songs and tunes to choose from.
To make matters worse, I went to a well known supermarket in the same mall and, believe it or not, they have the same damn music. Is this some kind of conspiracy to make us all dumb or mad?
I am at the point of running screaming out of the store if I have to listen to Sorry by Justin Bieber one more time.
Help!
