Justin Bieber shared a heartfelt message with fans on Easter Sunday, reminding them that the holiday "is not about a bunny", while also describing how religion has made him feel "set free from bondage and shame".

It was recently reported that Bieber's next album could be about his faith, with Bieber taking to Instagram on Sunday (April 1) to share a message about how "Jesus has changed my life".

"Easter is not about a bunny," Bieber wrote, "it's a reminder that my Jesus died on the cross for my sins and then rose from the dead defeating death! I believe this happened and it changes everything!"

He added: "I am set free from bondage and shame, I am a child of the most high God and he loves me exactly where I am, how I am, for who I am."

Bieber later shared a selfie of himself wearing a bunny mask, along with the caption: "Remember when i said easter isnt about bunnies… well i lied".

For the last two years, Bieber has attended services by the Hillsong Church, a global Pentecostal church that originated in Australia.

It has been claimed that his forthcoming fifth album will reflect the "redemption" he has experienced during his time with the church.

"Justin is on the lookout for songs which really reflect where he is in his life in terms of spirituality,' a source told The Sun.

"He has always been religious but the last two years have seen him grow closer to the Hillsong Church and it has changed his entire life. He has a totally different outlook now."

It was previously reported that Bieber cancelled the remainder of dates on his 'Purpose' world tour in an attempt to reconnect with his faith.
