US goalie Maddie Rooney challenges Justin Bieber on Tonight Show

U.S. goalie Maddie Rooney stopped Canada's best in the Olympic final shootout. Now she wants a crack at another famous Canadian — Justin Bieber.

"I want him to notice me, that would be awesome," Rooney said. "I want to stop his shot, too."

Rooney was asked by Jimmy Fallon on "The Tonight Show" whether she had heard from Bieber since she tweeted at him on Feb. 27.

Rooney, sitting down for the interview along with U.S. teammates Meghan DugganJocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson and Monique Lamoureux-Morando, said she had not heard from the singer.

She then revealed that she was still a Belieber, lifting her Olympic jersey to reveal a black Team Bieber shirt.

Rooney may know that Bieber is pretty comfortable with a hockey stick, having skated with the Toronto Maple Leafs when he was 17 in 2011 and played in the 2017 NHL All-Star Celebrity Shootout.

With no world outdoor championships or Olympics this year, the Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland might just hold the most coveted track and field prize of 2018.

An island.

The June 5 meet is offering the deed to one of the Turku Archipelago's 20,000 islands to the man who wins the javelin — with one caveat. He must throw farther than the Finnish record of 93.09 meters (a little more than 305 feet).

"I hope the island is big enough to fit a sauna," German Olympic champion Thomas Röhler said, according to the IAAF and meet organizers.

Röhler won this meet in 2016 and 2017, throwing 91.28 metres and 88.26 meters, respectively. If Röhler matches his personal best — 93.90 meters from last May — he will win the island.

As would world champion Johannes Vetter of Germany, who eclipsed the 93.09 mark at meets in July and August.

The U.S. won its second-ever World Rugby Sevens Series title — and first on home soil — in Las Vegas over the weekend.

No highlight was bigger than speedster Perry Baker's end-to-end score in a 19-7 semifinal win over Olympic champion Fiji on Sunday. The U.S. went on to beat Argentina 28-0 in the final for its second title after winning in London in 2015 in the near-20-year-history of the World Series.

Last season, Baker became the first U.S. player to lead the World Series in tries, after finishing second the previous campaign. He also had a leading 285 points (a try is worth five points).

The U.S. also had its best-ever overall series finish last season, fifth overall, after placing ninth in the sport's Olympic debut in Rio. It's in sixth place through five of 10 legs this season.

The U.S. hosts the Rugby World Cup Sevens for the first time in July in San Francisco.
