It's no secret that Selena Gomez's mom, Mandy Teefey, is not a fan of Jelena. The 41-year-old told Gossip Cop she was "not happy" that her daughter got back together with Justin Bieber, but acknowledged that she's a grownup who can make her own decisions.
"Selena can live her life however she wants as long as she is happy, safe and healthy," she said. "She is 25 years old and knows what is at stake with her health. I do not control her the way it has been portrayed. Selena is an adult and can make her own choices."
SG allegedly tried to not let her mom's disapproval affect the relationship, but in the end simply couldn't be with someone who didn't mesh with her family and decided to pump the brakes on Jelena.
"Selena and Justin decided to take a break mainly because of Selena's mom and her disapproval of Justin," a source told Us Weekly. "Justin's family loves Selena, but Selena's family has put her in a very conflicting spot because they still don't trust Justin. Selena has tried to convince her family that Justin has changed… but her family just isn't budging right now."
But when E! News caught up with Mandy at the Alliance for Children's Rights 26th Annual Dinner in Beverly Hills, California, on Wednesday, she told a different story.
"You would know before I did," she said when asked if SelGo and The Biebs actually are separated right now. "We don't talk about it."
Hmmm…that's interesting. You'd THINK Selena's relationship status would be something she discusses with her mom, especially if she's part of the reason there are problems. But seeing as the ladies have had issues with their bond in the past, we kinda understand why Mandy would want to stay out of the drama.
