Sadly, for fans of Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez and their true love forever, the couple's "break" could be turning out to be a full-on breakup.
Shortly after it was learned that Bieber, 24, and Gomez, 25,were taking some time off from their on-again, off-again relationship, Bieber was spotted by Entertainment Tonight dancing with a mystery blonde at a concert in West Hollywood March 20 and putting his arms around her.
The mystery blonde was subsequently identified as a 22-year-old Wilhelmina model, Instagram bikini maven and former Miss Teen USA Alabama with a unique name: Baskin Champion.
Last week, Bieber and Champion also attended the Los Angeles premiere of "Midnight Sun," a new romantic drama starring Bieber's good friend Patrick Schwarzenegger — who is dating Champion's younger sister Abby.
Then later in the week, Champion was spotted at Bieber's home in Beverly Hills. E! News reports they "hung out." The two "spent the day inside and she arrived on her own," a source told E!. "After spending the afternoon together, they both left the house within a few minutes of each other in separate cars."
The E! source added, "Justin seems very into Baskin and like they are very comfortable together. They are having fun and always laughing and flirting."
This week, it's believed that Champion attended the same Hillsong church service as Bieber and his 21-year-old ex-girlfriend, model Hailey Baldwin. After Bieber and Baldwin were seen leaving the service separately, a photo of the service popped up on social media, showing Bieber sitting in front of a blond thought to be Champion, E! reported.
The photo was posted on the account of a fan of a Bieber/Gomez reunion. @jelenaxrevival wrote: "This breaks my heart."
But perhaps it is time for the world to accept that Bieber and Gomez have moved on from each other.
Entertainment Tonight reported last week that Gomez had become overwhelmed by the massive media attention surrounding their rekindled romance. For that reason, she decamped to Australia, where she was photographed hanging out on a yacht in the Sydney harbor.
"Selena is very delicate; her 'comeback' to the spotlight has been tough — especially with the interest in her personal life with Justin and her mother," a source told ET. "She is taking time to herself. This is not the first time she has done this."
Bieber and Gomez dated on and off from 2011 to 2014. They reportedly rekindled their relationship shortly after her kidney transplant last summer. Gomez needed the transplant because of her lupus, a chronic inflammatory disease that occurs when the body's immune system attacks its own tissues and organs.
It had been previously reported that friends and family of Gomez, particularly her mother Mandy Teefey, were not thrilled about her reunion with Bieber. In October, a family source called Bieber "vile."
"Selena realized even though he's made some positive improvements, they just aren't a perfect match right now," a source explained to E!
Another source said, "It wasn't his choice for them to split, and he is really taking time to focus on himself right now. He has been working out every day, focusing on church and being out and about with his friends."
But people shouldn't get too ahead of themselves in thinking things are serious between Bieber and Champion, whom he knows "through his friend group," according to E!
"They have only hung out a few times," the insider told E! "He has definitely been liking her company, but to say they are dating is a huge stretch. Justin isn't trying to be serious with anyone but Selena."
In any case, Vanity Fair reports that Champion has things going for her that would make her an ideal Bieber girlfriend. As her many Instagram posts show, she's not just gorgeous, she loves ice cream and going to music festivals, like Coachella where she hung out with Patrick Schwarzenegger last year. She's also crazy for dogs and makes fitness a priority.
But most importantly, her faith is very important to her. As has become well known, faith also plays an important role in Bieber's life as well, with reports that he quit is tour last year to get reconnected with religion.
In a 2016 interview with Alabama.com, Champion, who grew up in a suburb of Birmingham, Alabama, talked about the importance of God and Jesus in her life:
"I try to be very conscious of what I put on social media and the way my image is depicted," said Baskin, who studied fashion design at Auburn University before heading to Los Angeles to model.
"If young girls could see anything about me, I would want it to be that living for Christ is the greatest joy that I, or anyone, could ever have," she continued. "I deal with people who have lots of money and success but who are not happy on the inside. Having a relationship with God is most fulfilling."
