Many of the Fall 2018 runways featured the more-is-more excess and glamour of the '80s, but fashion's '90s obsession is still very much alive and well as far as celebrities are concerned. The Hadid sisters have both been throwing it back in Clueless-style plaids and shredded denim in recent weeks, while Selena Gomez has chosen a more subtle '90s nod with her ever-present ankle bracelet.
As Gomez told Vogue last September, she's been on the accessory kick since her 2016 Revival tour in Japan, where she first started to add "a little charm" and "a little sparkle" below the knee. "I lose things," she said. "For me, it's got to be on me, you know what I mean?" Indeed, the singer couples the retro accessory with everything from platform loafers to sneakers and socks, and last night, she continued on that path when she anchored another signature (Louis Vuitton boots) with a bit of bling to attend a church service in Beverly Hills. (Though Justin Bieber was also present, the couple is said to be on a break and left separately).
Gomez kept things cute and casual in simple black skinny jeans and a tucked-in tee. For texture, she added a slouchy boyfriend sweater coat and put on gold hoop earrings that contrasted with the silver anklet. Nor did she shy away from mixing brown with black, choosing a camel-colored shoulder bag for the finishing touch.
