Edinburgh's beloved Citrus Club to REOPEN again after takeover by Justin Bieber DJ and local ...

ONE of the capital's most popular clubs and music venues The Citrus Club will be brought back to life for the second time in less than a year – now by Justin Beiber's DJ.

The beloved haunt, which was located on Grindlay Street for over 25 years before shutting up shop last year, has been taken over by DJ Prospect and restaurateur Shandy Martin.

It will open its doors this May until 3am every night under the name 4042 as a destination for A-list DJs, musicians, serious clubbers – and locals who are looking for something new.

Last year music fans were devastated to hear that Citrus Club had been passed to new owners Gavin Miller and Joanne Stewart who vowed to launch a hotspot Smash.

The venture failed to take off – but its new owners hope to restore the Citrus Club's iconic reputation.

DJ Prospect hosted Justin Bieber's Private Halloween Party in a secret location in Scotland in 2016 while Mr Martin most recently worked as general manager for Edinburgh's plush hotel Montpeliers.

Talking about the new venture, DJ Prospect is excited about what's to come and can't wait for people to see what he and his partner have in store.

He said: "We want to create a 3AM party spot in the capital which isn't club. A place where you can go finishing work at Standard Life across the road, join early evening and party till 3am.

"In a time where people want more than than a night out in a club, the 3am hang outs are the new thing across the globe.

"Being operator, promoters & DJs, we want to create our own perfect night out experience from drinks to entertainment."

The pair say the concept is a new one for Edinburgh, but one that Prospect and Shandy have seen taking off during recent experiences in New York, Los Angeles and around the globe.

Prospect said: "After being in LA for a few months at a time, I found that these cool 3am party spots were the new thing. It wasn't always the usual bottle-popping nightclubs.
"When I came back to Edinburgh and was back in the club circuit, I felt that was exactly what was missing.
"I wanted to create a place where the parties I throw can be a daily business, rather than just a weekly promoter-run club night."

The pair have got no interest in just setting up another club – and say 4042 is going to be something different, something new that will breathe new life into Edinburgh's late-night culture.

Shandy said: "It offers a great alternative to going to your usual clubs till 3am. We've got a good few additions we aren't announcing yet which will make the place real fun. We really want 4042 to be a cool spot to hang out all night, a place you don't want to move on from or need to arrive at the right time to experience it at its best.

Details are being kept securely under wraps – but clubbers have been teased with news to come.

Prospect said: "We'll be opening May. Following that we have something cooking with Radio 1's Charlie Sloth in June and a huge announcement to make for the Festival in August.

"There's loads being planned, so it's a pretty exciting time."
