Selena Gomez shocked fans when she opened up about secretly getting surgery for her health. She got a kidney transplant with the help of her friend, Francia Raisa. She then had to undergo chemotherapy. But that wasn't the first time Gomez opening up about her health took fans by surprise.
She previously took a hiatus after her Revival Tour to tend to her mental health because of anxiety, panic attacks, and depression. Those things, of course, regularly require attention, and so Gomez has reportedly recently taken time out again to get treatment.
Here are seven things we know about her most recent mental health retreat.
1. She reportedly was in the Privé-Swiss' wellness program
The singer reportedly spent two weeks in a luxury facility in Connecticut to do the Privé-Swiss' wellness program, according to Page Six. This was to reportedly get treatment for depression and anxiety. She lived at the facility while getting treatment.
"It's about physical, mental wellness and clean eating. She was there for about two weeks but she was also in the city doing work," a source revealed to Us Weekly. "She feels great." The facility reportedly has therapy, focuses on healthy eating, meditation, and pilates, according to Page Six.
The same source also assured that this treatment was more proactive than a reaction to something. "She doesn't want to slip back to where she was ever," the source continued. "She always wants to be proactive."
Next: Her boyfriend is also reportedly getting help.
2. She is still reportedly with Justin Bieber and he is also getting help
Her relationship with Justin Bieber is still going strong, according to sources. "Justin realized that he needed to change, reached out for help and is doing very well," a source told People.
The source then added, "The same [goes] for Selena — the second she doesn't feel well, she seeks help." The source continued, "They have both hugely matured. Justin is very supportive of Selena feeling her best."
Next: Gomez has recently been seen in public after leaving the facility.
3. Gomez has recently been seen having fun in L.A.
Now that she is out of treatment, Gomez has been spotted in L.A., having Mexican food and feeding ducks with friends in L.A. on Feb. 6, according to Elle. This is almost a week after she left.
Next: This isn't the first time Gomez has gotten treatment.
4. Gomez previously got treatment twice
The first time the actress got treatment was in 2014 at Arizona's Dawn at the Meadows facility. She went again in 2016 at a Tennessee facility, according to Page Six. The reasons cited were for anxiety and depression.
Next: The singer has talked about why she went to therapy before.
5. She has talked about therapy and having panic attacks
The young star has opened up about going to a psychiatric facility with Vogue. "My self-esteem was shot," Gomez told Vogue in April 2017. "I was depressed, anxious. I started to have panic attacks right before getting onstage, or right after leaving the stage. Basically, I felt I wasn't good enough, wasn't capable."
Next: The pop star made headlines recently for doing this on Instagram.
6. Gomez recently unfollowed hundreds of people on Instagram
Gomez made headlines at the beginning of the year for unfollowing all but 37 people on Instagram. She was previously following over 300. She also changed her main profile photo to one of her mother, Mandy Teefey.
Next: Teefey and Gomez are reportedly not getting along.
7. Her mother called her out for working with Woody Allen
Another potential stressor in her life: She reportedly hasn't exactly been seeing eye to eye with Teefey lately. One reason for the tension between them is that her mother recently called her out while responding to a fan on Instagram who asked why Gomez was working with Woody Allen, writing:
Sorry, no one can make Selena do anything she doesn't want to. I had a long talk with her about not working with him and it didn't click. Her team are amazing people. There is no fall person here. No one controls her. She makes all her own decisions. No matter how hard you try to advise. It falls on deaf ears.
