Presidents Day trivia: Which elite Twitter club has Barack Obama joined?

Today, on Presidents Day, Barack Obama can take a bow.

The former president has joined a very exclusive club: He now has more than 100 million followers on Twitter.

Earlier this month, people noticed that one of those followers is someone rather unexpected (more on that later).

According to the statistics website Statista.com, the former president had 99.53 million followers heading into February.

Today, his Twitter account shows he has now passed 100 million.

Make that 100,084,967 followers, according to TwitterCounter.com, an analytics service for the social media platform.

Only Katy Perry, with 108.5 million followers, and Justin Bieber, with 105.3 million, have more.

Rihanna, with 86 million followers is No. 4, followed by Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Ellen DeGeneres, YouTube, Cristiano Ronaldo and Justin Timberlake.

Perry was the first to hit the milestone 100 million mark in June 2017, just days after dropping her fifth studio album, "Witness." Twitter marked the momentous occasion with a congratulatory video tweet. Bieber hit 100 million followers a couple months later on Aug. 31.

Obama has a strong social media game. His last three tweets have attracted more than 1 million likes each, including a message about Martin Luther King, Jr., a Valentine's Day message to his wife, Michelle Obama, and a tweet following the school massacre last week in Florida that called for "long overdue, common-sense gun safety laws."

In 2012, shortly after news organizations began reporting that he had won re-election, he tweeted: "Four more years."

Those triumphant words were retweeted more than 600,000 times, at that time the most popular tweet to date in Twitter's history, according to Statista. (Its current stats: 920,234 retweets and 611,219 likes.)

Three of the former president's tweets made Twitter's Top 10 list of most shared tweets of 2017, Business Insider reported.

His response to the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Va., became the most-liked tweet in Twitter history. It has earned 4.6 million likes and been retweeted 1.7 million times to date.

"No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin or his background or his religion," he tweeted.

He also made that list with a tweet posted just a few days before he left office in January, and his poignant farewell message on Inauguration Day.

Time reported last year that Obama's "four more years" tweet and this one, another posted right before he left office, are among 10 of the most retweeted tweets of all time according to tweet tracking website, Favstar.

One of Obama's more notable Twitter followers is First Lady Melania Trump. Obama is one of only five people she follows on her official @FLOTUS account. She also follows her husband's two Twitter accounts, Vice President Mike Pence and @SecondLady Karen Pence.

Speaking at a leadership forum in India in December, Obama shared advice on how to use Twitter wrapped in a not-so-subtle dig at the current man in the Oval Office.

Donald Trump currently has 48 million followers.

"You know, I have about 100 million Twitter followers, more than some people who use it a lot," he said, according to Mediaite. (He had 97 million followers at the time.)

"Don't say the first thing that pops into your head, have a little bit of an edit function, that's good advice for life. You have to listen more."
