Selena Gomez Hangs Out With Friends At Beach In Mexico, Poses In Black One-Piece Bathing Suit

Selena Gomez knows how to prepare for the new year by traveling to Mexico and spending quality time with her friends. In a photo posted on Instagram by Raquelle Stevens, Selena is seen in a black one-piece bathing suit with three other young women wearing two-piece bikinis. They were all striking a fun pose in the water while enjoying some beach time.

The photo posted on Instagram was captioned, "Our 6th New Years together! Grateful for so many amazing memories."

Selena Gomez just changed her hair back to its original dark color after wearing it blonde for over a month. The 25-year-old singer and her pals are enjoying first-class accommodations. According to E! News, they're staying at a luxury villa that costs $18,000 per night; it has 360-degree views of the sea, an infinity pool and spa, a personal golf cart, and butler service.

A source tells the website that Gomez seemed "very excited" when she landed in Cabo "giggling" with her squad and snapping photos. Plans for the New Year's celebration include going out to some "fun dinners" and spending New Year's Eve together.

According to the report, the other ladies brought boyfriends with them to Mexico, but Justin Bieber is nowhere to be seen on this trip so far.

Selena Gomez is saying goodbye to a bittersweet year, Us Weekly writes. In September, the "Wolves" singer revealed that she'd undergone a kidney transplant and that her best friend, Francia Raisa, was the donor. Soon after, Selena and The Weeknd had split after seeing each other for 10 months. She was then in the news for rekindling her romance with Justin Bieber, something her mother is allegedly struggling with. A source told Us that Gomez didn't bring Bieber to her family's Thanksgiving gathering because she didn't think her mother would approve. Apparently, the singer's mother has "trust issues" regarding Justin and remains unconvinced that Justin is good for her daughter. The insider added that Justin hopes Selena's family eventually accepts him again and gives him another chance. He understands that it will take time, the source explained.

A source also informed Us in November that it's not just Selena Gomez's family who have reservations about her renewed romance with Justin Bieber. Her friends want her to be "cautious."

"She's seen the highs and lows of their relationship up close and she's not a fan. These women are not on the same page. This is going to be a very interesting meeting," the source added.

2017's good, bad and ugly

Hollywood had us so abuzz throughout 2017. Now that we can catch our breath, we picked out the biggest celebrity stories, so you can see exactly what went down in pop culture this past year. Enjoy.

• Harvey Weinstein was accused of sexual misconduct by more than 80 women. After The New York Times and The New Yorker published separate exposes on the movie producer, the floodgates have been opened, with countless people stepping forward with their own accusations against major celebrities, including Kevin Spacey, Louis C.K., Russell Simmons, Al Franken, Charlie Rose, Matt Lauer and Mario Batali.

• Prince Harry proposed to an American, Meghan Markle, and the "Suits" star said yes to a May wedding. Since the betrothal was announced earlier this month, the media have been in a state of Markle-mania. We've already been treated to the couple's official engagement photos, along with snaps of the pair enjoying the holidays at the queen's Sandringham estate.

• "La La Land" was accidentally named best picture at the Oscars instead of the true victor, "Moonlight." A painfully awkward envelope mix-up led to presenters Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty announcing the wrong winner. "La La Land" producers were already onstage giving their thank-you speeches when the show's staff started scrambling to fix the mistake.

• Kendall Jenner controversially resolved our country's racial tensions with a can of Pepsi. In a disastrous ad, Jenner abandoned her photo shoot to join a protest, making everything A-OK by handing a police officer some cola. "Pepsi was trying to project a global message of unity, peace and understanding. Clearly we missed the mark, and we apologize," the soda giant stated after pulling the ad. "We did not intend to make light of any serious issue."

• Three separate members of the Kardashian clan are allegedly expecting a baby. Kim Kardashian confirmed in September that she and hubby Kanye West are expecting a baby girl via surrogate. Meanwhile, Khloe Kardashian confirmed via Instagram that she and her Cleveland Cavalier boyfriend Tristan Thompson are expecting their first child. And that darn Kylie Jenner hasn't confirmed a thing about her alleged baby with rapper boyfriend Travis Scott.

• Let's not forget the Fyre Festival fiasco. What was supposed to be a luxurious, two-weekend music festival on the Bahamas' Exumas turned into a disaster reminiscent of "Lord of the Flies." Its hosts, entrepreneur Billy McFarland and musician Ja Rule, promised headliners like Blink-182, Migos and Major Lazer, along with opulent amenities. Tickets started at several thousands of dollars and, when guests arrived, they found a makeshift tent city with abysmal conditions.

• Jelena is back. Singers Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber have yet again reconciled. The couple has been on-again, off-again since 2010, taking a break the past couple of years. During their love hiatus, Gomez — who also surprised us in September when she shared she had a kidney transplant — dated Zedd and The Weeknd, while Bieber was tied to stars like Hailey Baldwin, Sofia Richie and Barbara Palvin. As of October, Jelena has been back in action.

• Acts of mass violence hit a couple of concerts. A suicide bomber killed 22 people and injured more than 500 others at an Ariana Grande concert at Manchester Arena on May 22. Then, on Oct. 1, a gunman opened fire on concertgoers while Jason Aldean played the Route 91 Harvest music festival in Las Vegas, leaving 58 people dead and 546 injured.

• Twins were trending. In February, Madonna announced she adopted daughters, Estere and Stella, from Malawi. George and Amal Clooney were next, welcoming son Alexander and daughter Ella on June 6. And last but definitely not least, Beyonce and Jay-Z had daughter Rumi and son Sir on June 13.

• Taylor Swift released her most recent and so-called edgy record, "Reputation," on Nov. 10. She allegedly used this sixth disc to diss rivals, such as Kanye West and Katy Perry, and somehow boost her street cred. The Grammy-winner also won a countersuit against former radio host David Mueller, whom she accused of groping her during a 2013 meet-and-greet.

Professional 'swatter' takes credit for 911 call that led police to kill Wichita man

A professional "swatter" – someone who pranks armed police into raiding the homes of innocent people – has taken credit for placing a fake 911 call that led an officer to kill a man in Wichita, Kansas.

Police were lured to the home of Andrew Finch, 28, on Thursday evening by a caller who falsely claimed to be inside with hostages and a gun.

Knowing nothing of the report, Finch went to the door as officers surrounded his home and was fatally shot on his porch.

In tweets and interviews, a man known online as "Swautistic" said he had placed the 911 call – which in his view was a routine hoax gone badly wrong.

"Bomb threats are more fun and cooler than swats in my opinion and I should have just stuck to that," Swautistic told reporter Brian Krebs on Friday. "But I began making $ doing some swat requests."

This 2015 booking photo released by the Glendale, Calif., Police Department shows Tyler Raj Barriss. The Los Angeles Police Department confirms it arrested Barriss Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, in connection with a deadly 'swatting' call in Wichita, Kan., Thursday, Dec. 28. Information from Glendale shows that in October, 2015, Barriss was arrested in connection with making a bomb threat to ABC Studios in Glendale. (Glendale Police Department via AP)
Tyler Raj Barriss

Several hours later, Los Angeles police arrested a 25-year-old named Tyler Barriss in connection with Finch's death. According to KABC, he had been arrested two years earlier for making hoax bomb threats to their TV station.

Police have not confirmed that Barriss and Swautistic are the same person or said who called them to the house or why. But local reports suggest that Finch – a father of two – may have been randomly caught up in a feud between two videogamers who obtained his address.

The two unnamed gamers got into an argument over a match of Call of Duty on Thursday, according to the Wichita Eagle. Screenshots of the spat show that one of them dared the other to swat him – and for some reason gave out Finch's address.

Swatting usually makes the news when police are tricked into raiding the home of celebrity – like Justin Bieber in 2012 or Lil Wayne in 2015. But it's lately become a way for people to escalate online disputes into the real world – punishing a rival with a surprise visit from a SWAT team.

Swautistic, as his screen name suggests, billed himself as something of a specialist.

"According to him, he's put his shingle out there as someone who can be hired to make these false reports," said Krebs, a former Washington Post reporter who now investigates digital security issues. "It seems like he got some kind of pleasure from doing it."

This, apparently, is how the aggrieved Call of Duty player came to enlist Swautistic's services.

"I was minding my own business at the library," a man claiming to be Swautistic told the YouTube channel DramaAlert. "Someone contacted me and said, 'Hey dude, this f-ing r–d just gave me his address and he thinks nothing is going to happen. You want to prove him wrong?' I said, 'Sure, I love swatting kids who think that nothing's going to happen.' "

On Thursday evening, a man phoned Wichita City Hall and ended up speaking with a 911 dispatcher. He said he had accidentally shot his father in the head during an argument and was now pointing a handgun at his mother and brother.

He threatened to set the house on fire, and then asked the operator: "Do you have my address correct?"

Police said the man continued to call 911 – even after they'd arrived at the address.

About an hour after sunset, officers surrounded the two-story house on McCormick Street where Finch was at home with his mother and at least two other people – none of them hostages.

"I had seen the red and blue light flashing in my window," Lisa Finch told the Eagle. "I heard my son scream, I got up and then I heard a shot . . . They didn't call the ambulance until he was dead."

Without naming Finch, police later said that a man emerged from the house and was repeatedly ordered to put his hands up. An officer thought he saw the man reach for a weapon, and opened fire.

But the man had no weapon, and police soon realized there were no victims in the house.

At a news conference, a deputy police chief said the officer who fired his gun had been placed on paid leave, and he blamed Finch's death on "the actions of a prankster."

Lisa Finch questioned how police could have been so easily duped. Her son didn't even play video games, she told the Eagle. "He has better things to do with his time."

As reporters crowded around Finch's blood-spattered porch on Thursday, @SWAuTistic wrote to 18,000 Twitter followers:

"That kids house that I swatted is on the news."

He wrote another message defending himself, according to the Eagle:

"I DIDNT GET ANYONE KILLED BECAUSE I DIDNT DISCHARGE A WEAPON AND BEING A SWAT MEMBER ISNT MY PROFESSION."

Swautistic's main account subsequently disappeared from Twitter – suspended – but by then, Krebs and others were digging through archives and screenshots of his posts.

"Those tweets indicate that Swautistic is a serial swatter," Krebs wrote on his website. He had claimed credit not just for Wichita – but for false bomb hoaxes at the Federal Communications Commission, a convention center in Dallas and a high school in Panama City, Florida.

A man Krebs believes to be Swautistic contacted him on Twitter on Friday morning through an alternate Twitter account. "I didn't believe him at first," Krebs told The Post. "But he was able to prove he was the swatter."

Krebs asked Swautistic if he felt bad about Finch's death.

"Of course I do," he replied. But he blamed the shooting on police and the Call of Duty player who had given him Finch's address – "taunting me to swat."

"People will eventually . . . tell me to turn myself in or something," he wrote. "I can't do that; though I know its morally right. I'm too scared admittedly."

"All so stupid," he wrote by way of reflection. "This whole thing."

A few hours after Krebs interviewed Swautistic on Friday, Los Angeles police arrested Barriss. Wichita police confirmed that he is a suspect in the case, though a spokesman said he didn't know how or if Barriss is connected to Swautistic or other online personas.

He has been arrested at least twice before, according to county records – once last year for unknown reasons, and once in 2015, when he called a phony bomb threat in to the ABC affiliate in Glendale, the station reported.

Reporters had to broadcast the evening news while bomb-sniffing dogs traipsed through their building that day, KABC reported, and Barriss received a two-year sentence.

Police Arrest Man In Fatal 'Swatting' Prank

Tyler Barriss, 25, suspected of phoning in a false 911 call that led to a police raid and the fatal shooting of a father of two, was arrested Friday afternoon in South Los Angeles, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman tells NPR.

Barriss is being held in a Los Angeles County jail without bail, according to LAPD Officer Mike Lopez.

The deadly prank began Thursday when a 911 operator in Wichita, Kan., received a call from a man who claimed he had shot his father and was now holding the rest of his family hostage. When police surrounded a house at the valid Wichita address, a confused 28-year-old man, Andrew Finch, stumbled out his front door. Within seconds, he had been fatally shot.

"Due to actions of a prankster, we have an innocent victim. If the false police call had not been made, we would not have been there," Wichita Deputy Police Chief Troy Livingston told reporters Friday.

"We believe this incident is a case of swatting," said Livingston, referring to an extreme practical joke that has made headlines in recent years. Instigators call 911 operators within close proximity to their victims — frequently using caller ID spoofing or other measures to conceal their true location — and report severely volatile situations that may warrant a SWAT team response. (Hostage-taking scenarios are common.) The goal is to surprise their unwitting victims with a full-force police response at their doors. Prominent celebrities like Justin Bieber and Ashton Kutcher have been swatted, but the prank is most well-known in video gaming communities, where it has been used as a form of revenge.

Speculation surrounding the caller's motivation has swirled as numerous gamers told The Wichita Eaglethat Thursday's episode was fallout from a dispute over the game Call of Duty. But Finch's mother told the Kansas paper that her son "doesn't play video games" and had "better things to do with his time."

The call that sparked the fatal ordeal starts with an erratic male voice telling a 911 operator that he had observed an argument between his parents and then fired a handgun at his father. "I shot him in the head, and he's not breathing anymore," says the man on audio released by Wichita police. He says he has cornered his mother and little brother in a closet. "I'm just pointing the gun at them, making sure they stay in the closet," he continues. "I already poured gasoline all over the house. I might just set it on fire ... in a little bit, I might." He then lists the address where the victim, Finch, was present.

Officers soon flanked the house on three sides and readied themselves for a confrontation, Livingston said in his press conference. Finch appeared at the door to the house and, following verbal commands from the officers, stepped forward with his hands up. At numerous points, however, he reached for his waistband. Fearful that Finch was going for a firearm, an officer discharged one round, killing the father of two, said Livingston.

"I heard my son scream, I got up and then I heard a shot," Lisa Finch, the victim's mother told the Eagle. She says her son was unarmed. Finch says police later instructed her, her roommate and her granddaughter to come outside with their hands up, which meant stepping over Finch's "dying" body.

A little over two years ago, a man also named Tyler Barriss, 22 years old at the time, was arrested for calling a bomb threat into the KABC-TV studios in Los Angeles.

The FBI's office in Kansas City, Mo., says its agents are, at the request of local police, now involved in the investigation, The Associated Press reports.

UMG Gaming, which runs tournaments of online video games including Call of Duty, also told the AP that the company "is doing everything we can to assist the authorities."

Authorities have become increasingly stringent in their responses to swatting incidents. Federal prosecutors pursued cases in Maryland and Connecticut in 2015.

Officials do, however, say that there are limits to what can be done to combat swatting. Trey Forgety of the National Emergency Number Association told NPR in 2013 that 911 operators all over the country face 600,000 calls a day, making spotting a fake one difficult.

"We start from a position that every call must be treated as if it is a legitimate call for help," Forgety said.

Australian Charts: Ed Sheeran Ends The Year With A Perfect No 1

The last sales figures for 2017 see the January 1st, 2018 chart log Ed Sheeran's "Perfect" at the top for a fourth straight week.

"Perfect" has three versions charting on the digital chart, none of which are No.1 there (it is at the top of the streaming chart though), as his solo version is at No.9 (down from #5), his Beyonce duet is at No.2 (up from #3) and his Andrea Bocelli classical version is at No.18 (down from a #1 debut last week). Ed has now racked up twenty-five weeks at No.1 in Australia from his four chart-topping songs, placing him outright 24th on the list for 'Accumulated Weeks at No.1: Singles; 1940 to 2018', one away from Al Jolson's 26 weeks (during the 1940's) and for this decade he is still at No.2 behind the 28 weeks accumulated by Justin Bieber.

The returning digital No.1 single is Camila Cabello and Young Thug with "Havana", which is back up one notch overall to No.2, swapping places with last weeks debut at No.2 "River" by Eminem and Ed Sheeran, which moves down to No.3 this week. Swapping position occurs again at No.4 and No.5, as both Top 10 Post Malone songs re-arrange with "Rockstar" back up one to No.4 and "I Fall Apart" drops a place to No.5.

For the first time since it's initial chart run in 1994 the Mariah Carey song "All I Want for Christmas is You" returns to the Top 10, up five places to No.6, giving it a third week within our Top 10 overall. On hold at No.7 is Marshmello and Khalid with "Silence", with his other Top 10 "Wolves" with Selena Gomez down a place to No.10. Down two spots to No.8 are Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line and "Meant to Be", whilst dropping a single place to No.9 is NF and "Let You Down".

UP:
* With Mariah leaping with her seasonal tune, the second of three festive tracks within the chart this week also leaps up in "Last Christmas" (HP-3) by Wham!, which is up a massive twenty-six places to land at No.11, having not been this high since the 19th of February in 1985 when it was about to drop out of the Top 10 after having spent eight broken weeks at No.3, plus with it being the one year anniversary of George Michael's passing during the sales week it was bound to climb anyway, with the song sitting at No.2 in the UK this week (behind Ed Sheeran).
* The first new peak for the week occurs at No.22 as the David Guetta and Afrojack track "Dirty Sexy Money" climbs a single spot.
* Pink and her "Beautiful Trauma" (HP-25) jump back up ten places to No.26, landing just behind their former peak, whilst her "What About us" track moves up seven spots to No.39.

* Cardi B and her "Bodak Yellow" track are back up seven places to No.65.
* Camila Cabello tumbled last week with her second entry within the Top 100 "Never Be the Same" from 52 to 80, which this week is back up nine places to No.71.
* Niall Horan's "Slow Hands" slide back up nine spots also, to land at No.72.

* Avicii drops down seven spots to No.58 with his track "Lonely Together".
* After a surge last week thanks to his new album, the Eminem and Beyonce track "Walk on Water" drops back down fifteen places to No.61, with his other eight entries from last week ALL leaving the chart after a single week within the Top 100 (all eight of the Eminem songs are the only tracks leaving the chart this week).
* The Kita Alexander track "Hotel" tumbles down thirteen places to No.67.
* The SZA debut from last week "The Weekend" drops back down seven places to No.73.
* The N*E*R*D injection last week into their "Lemon" sees it this week drop twelve spots to No.81.

NEW ENTRIES:
* #54 – How to Make Gravy – Rather Be Blind (EP) by Paul Kelly was originally released in November of 1996 as a four track EP and nominated in 1998 for an APRA Award, and tells the story of a man in prison writing to his brother lamenting the things he will be missing for Christmas. The recipe for gravy that is quoted in the song is taken from Paul's father-in-laws' recipe too. This isn't the first time Raquelle has shared a photo on her social media with her bestie Selena.  She recently attended the American Music Awards, where she gave props to the "Wolves" singer and her team on a great performance that night.

Whereas Pattie seems to be more on board with the relationship, Mandy is less enthused, telling Life & Style magazine that she "wants Selena to move on from Justin," and that she still has trust issues with him.

Maybe this trip is just what Selena needed to reboot and head into 2018 with her friends in a happy setting before heading back to Justin and the problems that come with them being back together.

Selena Gomez's Mom And Justin Bieber's Mom Are Planning To Meet

Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber are going strong about two months into their reconciliation, but according to a new report, their mothers, Mandy Teefey and Pattie Mallette, respectively, are on completely different pages about their relationship.

As Gomez and Bieber prepare to celebrate the New Year, an insider claims Teefey and Malletta feel very differently about the couple's reunion and plan to meet up soon to discuss their thoughts on the romance.

Teefey "wants Selena to move on from Justin," an insider revealed to Life & Style magazine on Dec. 29.

Meanwhile, Mallette "loves Selena and has been pushing Justin to pop the question!"

Gomez and Bieber were caught spending time together at the end of October, and right away, fans wondered what had happened between Gomez and The Weeknd. Then in mid-November, Gomez and Bieber confirmed their romance was back on when they enjoyed a sweet kiss as Bieber played in a hockey game in Los Angeles.

"People in Mandy's camp are saying it could get real ugly," the insider continued of Teefey's impending meeting with Mallette. "Mandy says Justin is trouble and immature, and she wants to knock some sense into Pattie and tell her their kids are better off apart."

According to the Life & Style magazine report, Teefey is not a fan of Bieber because she's seen firsthand the ups and downs of their relationship. Still, Gomez is hoping that her mother will ultimately forgive Bieber for his past mistakes and allow him another chance. As fans well know, Gomez said on Instagram in August of last year that her fellow musician had cheated on her a number of times throughout their relationship.

According to another insider who spoke to Life & Style magazine weeks ago, Gomez and Bieber are hoping to get off to a fresh start with each other and feel that they are already prepared to take the next step and move in together. As the source noted, they are reportedly planning to buy a new home in Calabasas or Hidden Hills and have an alleged budget of $15 million.

Gomez and Bieber were recently seen together in Seattle enjoying a short visit to the Sugar Factory but haven't been seen since. That said, the couple is expected to reunite in the coming days to ring in the New Year together in Mexico.

Selena Gomez Is in Mexico for New Year's without Justin Bieber

Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber's rekindled romance has been one of the highlights of 2017. But as we approach New Year's Eve, the pair aren't together: Bieber has been spotted playing hockey in Ontario, Canada, while Gomez is in Mexico with her friends. Does this mean that their relationship is off again?

Fans found out that Gomez was heading to Cabo San Lucas in Mexico when one of her friends posted a snap of the singer on a private jet on December 27:

Then, on December 29, another photo of Gomez surfaced, this time on a beach in Cabo:

According to E! News, Gomez seemed to be enjoying the trip to Mexico so far, with a source revealing that she "was giggling with her friends and taking photos. They are all planning to do some fun dinners and spend New Year's Eve together."

But E! News also previously revealed that Gomez and Bieber were planning to spend New Year's Eve together in New York. While this is seeming less likely right now, perhaps Bieber will make it to Cabo to join Gomez and her friends in time to ring in 2018?

A look at 'swatting,' the dangerous prank that led police to fatally shoot unsuspecting Kansas man

An unsuspecting and unarmed Kansas man opened his front door to encounter a massive presence of law enforcement and SWAT vehicles sparked by a prank 911 call that would culminate in his death.

Officers warned Andrew Finch to put his hands in the air, but the 28-year-old father of two young boys instead moved them toward his waistband, police said. Fearing he was reaching for a weapon, an officer fired a single fatal shot at the Wichita resident.

Authorities said he was the unintended victim of "swatting" — a prank notorious in the gaming community that involves phoning police with a bogus story in hopes of drawing hordes of first responders to a particular address.

Law enforcement estimates that some 400 cases occur annually, though Finch's death appears to be the first time anyone has been killed as a result.

The FBI coined the term back in 2008, pointing out cases of swatting as early as 2002.

The goal behind the prank when it first emerged seemed to be getting authorities to raid the homes of those live streaming their gaming experience to their followers. There are scores of archived videos on Twitch, a popular live streaming video platform popular with gamers, that show authorities dragging unsuspecting people from their games and bursting into their homes.

"The callers often tell tales of hostages about to be executed or bombs about to go off," according to an FBI release. "The community is placed in danger as responders rush to the scene, taking them away from real emergencies."

The prank also puts officers at risk, the FBI noted. Sentinel Police Chief Louis Ross in 2015 was shot three times while responding to supposed bomb threat at an Oklahoma home. He was struck once in the arm and twice in his bulletproof vest.

The homeowner, Dallas Horton, was arrested and then released because "facts surrounding the case led agents to believe the man was unaware it was officers who made entry." Upon further investigation, officers concluded the call had been a swatting prank.

Celebrities, including Clint Eastwood, Paris Hilton, Justin Timberlake, Rihanna and Justin Bieber, have also fell victim to the hoax 911 calls.

The trend picked up so much momentum a few years ago, the Los Angeles Police stopped publishing police reports on swatting in a bid to curb copycats, according to Verge.

Pranksters typically use techniques like Caller ID spoofing and social engineering to mask their own identities and manipulate where the call appears to be coming from. It's also a fairly easy trick to pull off, given law enforcement tends to err on the side of caution, the FBI said.

Since the trend emerged, lawmakers have established harsher penalties for those caught swatting. California State Sen. Ted Lieu, an author behind such a bill, became a victim of swatting himself in 2011.

Offenders in California are responsible for the "full cost" of the response to the fake threat, which can reach up to $10,000. Pranksters across the United States involved with such a hoax can face charges including conspiracy to retaliate against a witness, victim, or informant; conspiracy to commit access device fraud and unauthorized access of a protected computer and conspiracy to obstruct justice.

Alleged serial prankster and gamer Tyler Barris was arrested in Los Angeles Friday for making the false police report that led to Fincher's death.

Authorities believe he intended to send the SWAT team to the address of a person he had feuded with over a $1 or $2 "Call of Duty" bet.

Justin Bieber Is Selling His Own Religious Painting on Instagram

Pop star, Selena Gomez paramour, Californian transplant from Canada Justin Bieber can now add painter to his résumé. The devoted follower of Christ has made an original painting of a cross floating in front of storm clouds that he is selling to benefit, per his Instagram post, "WILDFIRES IN CA." One assumes that means the victims, firefighters, or perhaps the rebuilding efforts. The painting is titled Calvary, and while it's unclear exactly how or where or for how much Bieber is selling it (maybe DM him?), it should fetch a pretty penny. The post about it has already racked up over a million and a half likes, and Britney Spears recently sold a painting (to benefit victims of the Las Vegas shooting) for 10 thousand dollars. Hers was of flowers and squiggles, which is kinda the Britney version of the cross.

Bieber's inaugural work appears to be spray paint on wood, or perhaps a thin canvas. A paint can and scissors litter the floor of his studio, and the cross has a drippy effect going on as it floats in front of storm clouds and green hills. The green hills appear to have been painted with a thicker pigment, perhaps acrylic or oils, and are possibly still wet. And now we have officially exhausted my roster of art-related words. Um. Forced perspective. There you go.

Bieber often uses his Instagram platform to promote love and worship. His bio links to a video about Christianity and he regularly posts musings about God. Dictionary.com defines "Calvary" as "1. Golgotha, the place where Jesus was crucified. Luke 23:33.; 2. (often lowercase) a sculptured representation of the Crucifixion, usually erected in the open air.; 3. (lowercase) an experience or occasion of extreme suffering, especially mental suffering."

Maybe the cross is bringing the storm clouds to put out the fire, make the California hills green again with rain and ease the suffering of everyone? I totally get art.

Selena Gomez Hits the Beach in Cabo San Lucas with Friends Ahead of New Year's Eve

Selena Gomez is ending 2017 on sunny note.

The 25-year-old "Bad Liar" singer escaped to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, for New Year's  Eve weekend, where she was seen splashing in the waves Friday alongside pals Raquelle Stevens, Courtney Barry, and Ashley Cook in an Instagram photo shared to Stevens' page.

"Our 6th New Years together!" Stevens captioned the group shot. "Grateful for so many amazing memories."

It wasn't just the four friends. Other photos on Instagram show that BFFs Caroline FranklinTheresa Marie MingusRebeka Walters, and Tanya Rad are also along for the trip.

Many of the friend's boyfriends appear to be joining them, though it's unclear whether Gomez's on-again, off-again beau Justin Bieber is there.

On Friday he posted a video to Instagram Stories showing a colorful hand-drawn picture that read "His Perfect Love" from a sprawling sunny tropical estate. The clip was set to worship band Hillsong UNITED's 2007 track, "Hosanna."

REALTED: A Complete History of Justin Bieber & Selena Gomez's On-Again, Off-Again Relationship

Gomez and Bieber — who dated on-and-off from 2011 to 2015 — have been spending a lot of time together in the wake of Gomez's split from ex-boyfriend The Weeknd in October.

She was first spotted spending time with Bieber, 23, that same month, going on a bike ride and attending church together. The former flames have continued to fuel reconciliation rumors since then, even sharing smooches at Beiber's hockey games.

Still, despite what it looks like, the reunited pair still aren't officially boyfriend and girlfriend and are receiving guidance from Hillsong pastor Carl Lentz about their relationship, multiple sources confirmed to PEOPLE.

"They don't want to repeat the same patterns as before. They've clearly had issues in the past, so they're receiving some guidance from Carl," a Gomez insider said. "[They] love each other [and] truly do want the best for each other."

Her relationship with Bieber isn't the only major milestone Gomez has crossed this year.

In September, the actress shocked when she announced that, due to lupus complications, she'd received a kidney transplant from her best friend Francia Raisa over the summer.

"She saved my life… I feel incredibly lucky," Gomez said in November at Billboard's 2017 Women in Music event, where she was honored with the Women of the Year award. Raisa, who has been Gomez's close confidant for nearly eight years, presented her with the trophy.

"Honestly, I couldn't be more grateful for the position that I've been given in my career from 7 to 14 to now. I want people to know that I respect the platform that I have so deeply because I knew that I wanted to be a part of something great, I wanted people to feel great," Gomez added. "I feel like for me, with my music, I've been able to illustrate the things that I want. And I'm reminded by a team of people who believe in me even when I don't myself and I couldn't be more luckier."

Arrest made in KS 'swatting' call that preceded fatal police shooting

LOS ANGELES (NBC News) — Los Angeles police arrested a 25-year-old man in a suspected "swatting" hoax 911 call in Kansas that ended in the fatal police shooting of an unarmed man.

The LAPD took Tyler Barriss of Los Angeles into custody Friday afternoon, on a fugitive warrant stemming from the Thursday evening incident in Kansas, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Police in Wichita fatally shot a man identified by family members as Andrew Finch, 28, after officers responded to a hoax 911 call, police in Kansas said.

Barriss allegedly made the false report after getting into some kind of dispute with another person in connection with online gaming, and Barriss allegedly gave authorities the address that he believed that person lived at, multiple law enforcement sources told NBC News.

But instead the address was for the home of Finch, who was not involved in the dispute, the sources said.

The caller claimed his father had been shot in the head, and that he was holding his mother and a sibling at gunpoint, according to police audio played at a press conference in Wichita Friday.

Officers surrounded the home bracing for a hostage situation. When the man identified as Finch went to the door police told him to put his hands up, and an officer fired after the man moved his hand toward the area of his waistband, Wichita Deputy Police Chief Troy Livingston said.

Finch was unarmed, he said. "Due to the actions of a prankster we have an innocent victim," Livingston said.

The officer who fired the single shot, a seven-year veteran of the department, is on paid leave pending an investigation.

"We believe this incident is a case of 'swatting,'" Livingston said. He said the shooting was "a tragic and senseless act" and that "the incident is a nightmare for everyone involved, including the family and our police department."

The Finch family on Friday allowed reporters inside their home. Lisa Finch told them her son was not a gamer.

"What gives the cops the right to open fire?" she asked. "That cop murdered my son over a false report in the first place."

Dexerto, an online news service focused on gaming, reported that the series of events began with an online argument over a $1 or $2 wager in a "Call of Duty" game on UMG Gaming, which operates online tournaments including one involving "Call of Duty."

"We woke this morning to horrible news about an innocent man losing his life," Shannon Gerritzen, a UMG vice president, said in an email to The Associated Press. "Our hearts go out to his loved ones. We are doing everything we can to assist the authorities in this matter." She declined to disclose other details.

Barriss was taken into custody in South Los Angeles, and had been living at a transitional recovery center, sources said.

The FBI estimates that roughly 400 cases of swatting occur annually, with some using caller ID spoofing to disguise their number. An FBI supervisor in Kansas City, Missouri, which covers all of Kansas, said the agency joined in the investigation at the request of local police.

In 2012, LAPD Hollywood Division Detectives arrested a then-12-year-old boy in connection with so-called "swatting" calls that manipulated the 911 system to allege violent crimes in progress at the homes of celebrities such as Justin Bieber and Ashton Kutcher.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Selena Gomez Is Spending New Year's Eve in Mexico—Without Justin Bieber

Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber are the cause of much speculation lately, for obvious reasons. A few weeks ago they took a very PG-rated trip to the Sugar Factor Candy store in Seattle for some sweet treats and a shared non-alcoholic $34 Ocean Blue mocktail. Things seemed good until Gomez reportedly walked out on Bieber because he was doing some embarrassing dance movies, which is kind of incredible if you put yourself in her shoes. Meanwhile, rumor has it that he wasn't invited to her family's Christmas celebrations—we don't know the full details why, but seems a little awkward, no?

Anyway, there's nothing like a post-Christmas break break, and people are talking about Gomez's latest trip...without Bieber. But before you read too much into that and think they broke up, that is not the case. Instead, Selena just decided to have a little break from the United States' cold, dreary winter weather and hopped on a private jet to Cabo this week with some of her best friends to spend their sixth New Year's together. From there, reports E!, she went straight to a "private villa that features 360-degree views of the ocean blue water and an infinity pool." Yeah, um, we'd head straight there too.

Of course, what's a trip to Cabo without hitting up the beach for a 'gram?

Given this trip looks to be "girlfriends only," one might surmise that this will be a Justin-less ringing-in of 2018, unless he shows up on his own flight. Which, hey, that could happen: After all, couples don't necessarily always travel together, and a two-hour and 30-minute flight creates a lot of time for, shall we say, creative dance moves in a very small, enclosed, exitless space.

But our bet is on Selena just enjoying some quality time with some of her BFFs, which is awesome. Meanwhile, Bieber is enjoying some me time: Fans have spotted him playing hockey in Canada.
