Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber are not engaged, nor are they about to get engaged, despite speculation. After Bieber was asked this week about proposing to his on-and-off girlfriend, the rumor mill went into overdrive. But Gossip Cop can set the record straight.
On Monday, Bieber was asked if he's going to propose to Gomez as a paparazzo filmed him leaving a restaurant in Beverly Hills. The superstar didn't say anything in response, but smiled and appeared to blush. That reaction was apparently all it took for fans and outlets to start questioning the status of their relationship. On Thursday, for example, Elite Daily has a headline stating, "Are Selena Gomez & Justin Bieber Engaged? This New Video Has Fans Asking Questions."
"The clip is circulating (FOR GOOD REASON) and it's making fans wonder if Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber are engaged," notes the outlet, adding, "Fans have been asking this question since the ex-lovers rekindled the flame over a month ago. The two have been spotted on date nights, going to church, and making out." But none of that equals an engagement. Bieber blushed at a question; the pair have gone on dates, attended church and kissed. Couples do those things all the time. It doesn't mean they're set to wed or about to walk down the aisle.
That's especially true in this case. The singers' relationship is not progressing as fast as some fans, and the gossip media, wish to believe. They are spending time together and hopeful for the future, but not jumping the gun. The same can't be said for publications like this one, which did acknowledge reaching out to "both Gomez's and Bieber's team for comment," but still ran its flimsy, unconfirmed speculation anyway.
Other webloids, like RadarOnline, are also spreading misinformation. On Wednesday, the site claimed Bieber and Gomez were not only "talking marriage," but that she also wants to "start a family." Gossip Cop was told the tale was "fabricated," and our sources stressed the couple isn't ready to take such big steps. Elite Daily must've missed the memo.
