Justin Bieber's new hit is here, and resistance is futile

If you thought Justin Bieber's decision to pull the rest of his "Purpose" world tour dates last month would grant you some respite from the boy prince of pop, think again.

On Thursday, Biebs reared his catchy head again with a new single, "Friends." It's a joint effort with his regular

producer BloodPop, and even haters can't deny that it sounds like chart dynamite. Just listen:

The bubbling electro track feels like a distant cousin of 2015's smash "Sorry" — which isn't too surprising, since songwriting masterminds Justin Tranter and Julia Michaels were behind that track, too. "Friends" has a similarly euphoric hook, and hears Biebs, once again, lamenting his inability to turn his back on a relationship.

On first listen, it sounds like it's destined to continue Bieber's hot streak. The 23-year-old has been a guest vocalist on no fewer than four Top 10 hits in the last year: Major Lazer's "Cold Water," DJ Snake's "Let Me Love You," DJ Khaled's "I'm the One," and the runaway song of the summer "Despacito" (remix) by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee.

Resistance is useless — the boy's got the pop Midas touch.
