With the likes of Justin Bieber and Troye Sivan being discovered on YouTube, record companies have increasingly turned to the internet for the 'next big thing.'

And with the demise of reality show X-Factor Australia, which saw winners offered a recording contract with Sony Music, the label has announced a new web-based reality series.

The Daily Telegraph reported that the upcoming series, TheShareSpace, is set to launch in October, with Sony Australia boss Denis Handlin declaring it will 'drive creative brilliance.'

The publication reported the series will see eight hopefuls, called The Talent, holed up in a warehouse for a month.

They will then be put through a 'creative boot-camp', during which they will hone their songwriting, recording, performing and marketing skills.

In a refreshing twist to most reality shows, it was also reported that the hopefuls won't be facing elimination, with success measured by a 'dynamic chart' that tracks the artist's popularity with fans on social media and music streaming services.

Speaking to the publication, Denis Handlin said the concept was a great way to foster an artist's true creative potential.

'It will drive creative brilliance and is bound to attract significant attention particularly with the youth of Australia,' he said.

While not much is known at this stage about who will be involved in the project, the publication suggested that  2013 X-Factor contestant Jai Waterford could be involved in a mentor or hosting capacity.

It was also speculated that the label would be keen to get high profile Sony alumnus Guy Sebastian, Jessica Mauboy, and The Veronicas involved with the series.

Julie Ward, from production company ZigZagTV  -the team behind such ratings hits as Australian Ninja Warrior, The Voice and Australia's Got talent, will lend her skills to the series.

'Together, we are creating a format that puts music collaboration at the fore, supporting a group of artists to grown their talent and fanbase,' she told the publication.
