Sorry New Jersey, there is no "Purpose."

Justin Bieber has cancelled the remaining dates of his  "Purpose World Tour" world tour, which would have included two shows, August 23 and 24, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.

"Due to unforeseen circumstances, Justin Bieber will cancel the remainder of the Purpose World Tour concerts," said his rep in a statement. "Justin loves his fans and hates to disappoint them. He thanks his fans for the incredible experience of the Purpose World Tour over last 18 months."

REVIEW: Justin Bieber's no fun zone in Newark

Bieber did play tour shows in Newark and Atlantic City last July.

"He is grateful and honored to have shared that experience with his cast and crew for over 150 successful shows across six continents during this run," said the rep. "However, after careful consideration he has decided he will not be performing any further dates. Tickets will be refunded at point of purchase."

So, exactly what were the "unforeseen circumstances"? Those are not known, but singer John Mayer said we should give Bieber some slack in a tweet.

"When someone pulls remaining dates of a tour, it means they would have done real damage to themselves if they kept going," Mayer tweeted. "We've lost so many great artists lately. I give Justin (two thumbs up) for realizing it was time to call it. You should too."
