'Despacito' is the true king of streaming views: Universal

Just days after YouTube crowned "See You Again," the hit performed by Warner Music artists Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth the most streamed song ever, Universal Music is offering up a different take.

The world's largest music company on Wednesday is expected to crown its own song, Luis Fonsi's "Despacito," the all-time streaming champ.

Universal, throwing more than a little shade on YouTube, tallied up streaming totals from several platforms — not just the popular Google-owned site — in coming up with its award.

"Despacito" was streamed 4.6 billion times as of Tuesday, Vivendi-owned Universal Music declared, noting it cobbled together stats from Spotify, Apple, Amazon and others.

The song features Justin Bieber, whose own song, "Sorry," held the overall streaming record until "Despacito" knocked it into second place, with 4.38 billion streams.

Fonsi, in a statement, said, "Streaming is a connector for audiences worldwide and it has helped my music reach every corner of the planet."

"Despacito" is housed by Universal Music Latin Entertainment and Republic Records.

On July 11, YouTube said that after five years of being the most popular music video of all time, "Gagnam Style" was ousted from the top slot by "See You Again" — the song from the "Furious 7" soundtrack — 2,894,026,649 to 2,894,022,895.

On YouTube on Tuesday, "Despacito" stood at 2.64 billion streams.

"The point Universal is trying to make is that it's not all about YouTube," Mark Mulligan, a UK music analyst at Midia, told The Post. "It's mainly about them but not all about them."

Spotify has some 50 million paying subscribers and 140 million active users and Vevo, in addition to sitting inside YouTube, has its own URL and is also a big factor, Mulligan noted.

"Vevo's second- and third-biggest markets are in Brazil and Mexico."
