Drake just wants one dance, Justin Bieber thinks it's too late now to say sorry, The Weeknd will probably put you in the worst mood and Shawn Mendes knows he can treat you better.
These four Canadians artists took over the world of music in 2016, reaching millions of people with their sentiments and topping global charts. They came away with numerous nominations and awards, played on several late night talk shows and brought their music to arenas, clubs and cellphones around the world.
Here's how these four Canadian musicians made their mark in 2016:
Drake
Drake danced his way to the top of the charts this year, we're sure with a glass of Hennessy in his hand.
The Toronto born pop-rap artist released a top selling album, headlined the Summer Sixteen tour, hosted and performed on Saturday Night Live, co-created a brand of whisky and beat a 32-year record for most nominations at the American Music Awards.
"For our genre, I just like to keep things exciting and keep making music," Drake said while accepting the award for Best Rap/Hip Hop Artist at the American Music Awards in November.
Fans seemed to agree that he was keeping music interesting as "Views" landed the top album honour on iTunes and most plays, with 2.4 billion, on Spotify. The 30-year-old also led the top song category on both online music platforms with "One Dance," gaining more than 970 million plays on Spotify.
Drake ends the year with eight Grammy nominations – held on Feb. 12, 2017 – including one for Album of the Year. His much-anticipated album "More Life" was expected to be released before the end of the year but has been pushed back to early 2017.

The Weeknd
The Weeknd finished the year by strutting down the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show runway singing a single from his brand new album "Starboy." His performance received nearly as much attention for the hit song as it did for the moment when ex-girlfriend Bella Hadid brushed past the singer as she walked down the runway.
He may be singing about trying to put us in the worst mood, but it hasn't worked so far.
His album only dropped in November but debuted at the top of iTunes charts in more than 80 countries and boasted the single "Starboy," a collaboration with Daft Punk. Every song off the album also appears on the Billboard Hot 100.
The 26-year-old Toronto native performed songs off of the album on Saturday Night Live when he appeared as the musical guest and headlined the Jingle Ball concert in Toronto on the night of his album release.
The Weeknd has already announced a 2017 tour, Starboy: Legend of the Fall, with a stop in Toronto on May 26 and a stop in Quebec City on May 31.

Justin Bieber
Justin Bieber spent his year on the Purpose tour, performing his 2015 studio album in front of people across the world.
The 22-year-old from Stratford, Ont. landed his fourth studio album "Purpose" on the top 10 albums of the year on iTunes and was the second most streamed album on Spotify. His hit single "Love Yourself" also landed at No. 5 on iTunes' top 10 songs of the year.
"Life is a journey and everyone has their own journey. Everyone has their ups and their downs," Bieber told the crowd at the 2016 Brit Awards. "I just want to take this opportunity to thank all of my fans."
The singer had a rocky relationship with fans this year. He cancelled all of his meet-and-greets, calling them "draining," and stormed off a stage in Manchester, U.K. when too many girls were screaming. However, the singer had his high points with fans too, performing an impromptu concert at a Toronto bar.
Bieber fans have been thanking him since he appeared on Major Lazer's "Cold Water" in 2016, which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, continuing his collaboration with top electronic-dance-music artists.
Bieber will go up against fellow Canadian Drake for Album of the Year at the Grammy's and will continue his Purpose tour into 2017, finishing in Toronto on Sept. 16.

Shawn Mendes
Shawn Mendes has begged for mercy this year and promised to treat you better, but how much better could it get?
The 18-year-old from Toronto was named No. 1 on Spotify's 25 Under 25 list. His second album "Illuminate" debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 giving him two number one albums. His single "Treat You Better" peaked at No. 6.
Mendes performed both hit singles "Treat You Better" and "Mercy" on Saturday Night Live as the musical guest and at the American Music Awards.
Mendes will perform on Dick Clark's News Years Rockin' Eve show and will also embark on the Illuminate World Tour in 2017, stopping in Vancouver on July 8 and Montreal on Aug. 14.

These four artists weren't just the four most popular in Canada, they were the most popular around the world. If the past two years have been any indication – Canadians led the charts in 2015 as well – then 2017 should be an equally big year.
