Male Nude Sunbathing: Yae or Nay?

Instead of spending his four-game suspension from the NFL sulking at home, Tom Brady and his supermodel wife, Gisele Bündchen, traveled to Italy for a kids-free vacation. During the couple's sojourn, the New England Patriots quarterback was spotted on a lounge chair completely naked, making him the latest celebrity to join the coven of men who sunbathes in the nude.

Over the summer, Orlando Bloom was photographed paddleboarding and frolicking around Sardinia wearing absolutely nothing. Around the same time, Justin Bieber went commando during a trip to Hawaii. (Three's a trend, people!) Does this mean that dropping trou is now acceptable for men on vacation?

A quick poll around the office showed that the majority of Vogue.com staffers were on the pro-side of male nudity. "I think being accepting of your body is the most liberating thing ever," said Marjon Carlos, Vogue.com's Senior Fashion Writer. "They're on vacation, relax! He's got a six-pack; how much harm can he do?" Meanwhile, Senior Beauty Writer Mackenzie Wagoner believes male nudity is just another step toward achieving gender equality. "There's a great joy in being naked in the open air," she explained. "Why would I deny the opposite sex that pleasure? There's nothing feminine about it."

Others editors were a bit more skeptical of the increasingly popular practice. "What's the goal? Is he really that concerned about tan lines?" asked Managing Editor Alexandra Macon. While Culture Editor Jessie Heyman thinks the privilege is best left reserved for those who, like Brady, are superhumanly attractive. "When a celebrity sunbathes nude, it's like, well, sure; why wouldn't you parade around freely in your villa or on your paddleboard? But barring famous people, it's basically hell." Readers, tell us in the comments: Yea or nay to male nude sunbathing?
