Justin Bieber and Amy Schumer Are Dangerous for Your Computer

Did you know that searching that cool new Selena Gomez video could mean disaster for your computer? A 10-year-old annual internet study is hoping to keep you out of danger.

For the past decade, Intel Security has generated a list of the most dangerous celebrities to search for online, as hackers often use popular stars to bait people into clicking on something that contains viruses and malware. For instance, if you type in "[CELEBRITY NAME] Torrent," there's a high probability that the link you click on will infect your computer with something bad.

"Consumers today remain fascinated with celebrity culture and go online to find the latest pop culture news," explained Gary Davis, Intel Security's chief consumer security evangelist. "With this craving for real-time information, many search and click without considering potential security risks. Cybercriminals know this and take advantage of this behavior by attempting to lead them to unsafe sites loaded with malware."

Who made Intel Security's list of celebrities who could mean the most catastrophe for your computer? Comedian Amy Schumer topped the list, as there's a 16% chance that anything you click on relating to Amy could spell danger for your electronic device.

There were also several close finishers behind her that you've probably heard of: Justin Bieber came in second to Amy Schumer with a 15% chance of clicking on a website with viruses, Rihanna and Miley Cyrus came in at 13%, and Selena Gomez and Kesha both tied for 11%.

Afraid to surf the web now? The good news is that a lot of searching and clicking is common sense. Be careful when clicking or downloading any material from a third-party website, and never give out your personal information online. There are plenty of ways to watch a Justin Bieber vid or listen to Miley Cyrus without dealing with cyber security issues.
