How is performing live festivals different from performing in a club?

B-Roc: Everyone is here just to have fun there's no pretentious music fans. Everyone here is down to have a good time. We also have a lot of new fans because people just trust festivals and they trust the lineup, so they want to see and do new stuff. They will stumble across you and just end up having a good time
JPatt: A lot of people come to festivals to discover new bands, so we recently been having more people coming because they know what we're about. There's still that discovery that we enjoy.

Take me back to time when you first discovered your love for music growing up
JPatt: I was music from the womb there wasn't really a choice. I came out with a piano in my hand. That's how it was my whole family does music.
B-Roc: My family were definitely music fans. I was always around it. My parents were huge classic rock and Bruce Springsteen fans. My mom was never not playing music in the car. It's something I look up too and it's the first thing I said I ever wanted to do was to be in a band.

There were tons of people enjoying The Knocks:

How did you discover your love for electronic music?
B-Roc: When I was young like 13 my sister put me on DJ Shadow record, Beastie Boy stuff, and a lot of DJ based turntable music.
JPatt: When I was young I was only into Rap and Jazz at the time, but my homie was like have you heard these guys Daft Punk? I was instantly hooked.

What does your creative process look like?
B-Roc: We always work with different musicians so it always brings something new to the table. We always have features and collaborations. We like to get in a room with someone we never worked before and it always changes your genre of music. It's our favorite thing to do is to work with a variety of musical talent and apply it to what we are.
JPatt: We're DJs what we're about is testing new records in the club. We try to stay relevant. We don't think of it as research we just keep ourselves informed.

A peak into the Outside Lands entrance:

How did you open for Justin Bieber?
B-Roc: That happen in a cool way because we did an unofficial Carly Rae Jepson remix Bieber's management heard it and liked it and they found out and reached out to us. The guy who found us was a fan of ours which we didn't know. They put us on a test run by putting us on two shows with Justin in Canada which was crazy, and then from there we toured around Europe with Justin.

What do you think is the biggest misconception of DJ's?

JPatt: That DJs can't be musicians.
B-Roc: They think we're button pushers.
JPatt: All DJs aren't musicians they just make noise. They just assume.
B-Roc: DJs are musicians JPatt plays every instrument they just assume because they're not playing them on stage means they can't really play. It's a whole different world it's the modern age. Its funny, its a pet peeve of mine.
