Justin Bieber pays tribute to Christina Grimmie during tour

Justin Bieber has paid tribute to Voice US contestant Christina Grimmie during a concert in Canada.

Grimmie, 22, was fatally shot by a gunman on Saturday (June 11) while signing autographs before a show in Orlando.

Bieber, who met Grimmie when she toured with his ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez, dedicated a song to the singer at his show in Winnipeg over the weekend.

The star sung "Grimmie, can you hear me?" mid-way during his performance of hit single 'Purpose' and then appeared to wipe away tears.

Gomez has similarly dedicated a song to her close friend during a recent gig in Miami.

"I knew Christina Grimmie before, when she was 14, we met her and my parents and I signed her," Gomez said. "One thing about Christina and her family is that she holds her faith so closely to her.

"And I think it's not about a religion and it's not about anything or good deeds. It's just that she had faith, and I don't really understand how this really happened, but I would like to dedicate this next song to her."

Grimmie appeared on The Voice US in 2014, when she finished third in the competition under the mentorship of Maroon 5's frontman Adam Levine.
