Calgarian dances with Justin Bieber and for Paula Abdul in the same night

Normally there's not much to be happy about on a Monday – but the average Monday doesn't usually involve both a So You Think You Can Dance competition and Justin Bieber.

Twelve-year-old Calgarian Tate McRae's audition in front of Paula Abdul and the other So You Think You Can Dance judges aired on Monday night, where she heel kicked into first position – winning a ticket into the next round.

But while the nation watched her pre-recorded audition on television, McRae was stealing the spotlight next to one of Canada's most recognizable icons, Justin Bieber, in the Saddledome.

"It was surreal dancing with Justin Bieber," she exclaimed. "I never thought I'd be able to do this. I was dancing in front of 19,000 people, so it was a huge moment."

McRae was one of four Calgarians chosen to dance alongside Bieber to the song Children. The process started months ago when Bieber's choreographer uploaded the dance moves on Youtube – and challenged kids in each tour city to learn the moves and send in a video of them performing.

McRae has been dancing for half of her life, so it wasn't a stretch to pop and lock into the choreography.

Her talent goes beyond just dancing – for a year-and-a-half, McRae lent her vocal talents to the Nickelodeon show Lalaloopsy, playing four characters.

For the summer, however, her heels are firmly set to leap forward with So You Think You Can Dance. She moves onto the Academy round to learn new choreography, and the top 10 contestants will be selected to dance on from there.
