Buenos Aires, May 22 (EFE).- Justin Bieber fans staged a protest in Buenos Aires to demand that the singer be allowed to enter "freely" into Argentina, where judicial officials ordered him to give a statement in connection with an attack on a photographer.
About 500 people, the majority of them teenagers, gathered on Saturday at the Obelisk in the capital in response to a call on social media for a "massive march by beliebers" to show support for the pop singer.
The singer's fans staged the protest after Bieber announced last week that his "Purpose Tour" would skip Argentina due to his legal problems in the South American country.
Protesters waving signs, chanting and singing the Canadian singer's best-known songs demanded that officials allow Bieber to "freely enter" Argentina.
"We're suffering over this, we feel lousy, we're sad because Justin is our idol. We just want to watch him sing," Rocio Pignanelli, a member of the Justin Bieber Argentina Fan Club, told EFE.
Bieber said in a Twitter post last Monday that he would not perform in Argentina, where he got into a fight with a photographer outside a club three years ago.
The incident occurred during the Canadian singer's 2013 concert tour of Argentina.
In the early hours of Nov. 9, 2013, according to the allegation, Bieber ordered his two bodyguards to assault a photographer outside a disco in Buenos Aires, leaving the victim with injuries to his left arm.
In February, a judge ordered the 22-year-old Bieber to appear in court and give a statement.
