Justin Bieber and his "Sorry" producer Skrillex are facing a lawsuit filed by an indie artist. White Hinterland whose real name is Casey Dienel has claimed that they stole the vocal riff from her 2014 track, "Ring The Bell", which was used in the hit song, "Sorry".
Skrillex immediately took to Twitter to respond to the allegation and say that they did not steal the tune. He tweeted "SORRY but we didn't steal this," with a video of how the songwriters crafted the "Sorry" vocal.
Gossip Cop reports that Dienel, in her court filing, says the 8-second vocal loop which was used as an introduction to the song is her vocals and it is uniquely female and it is apparent that it is her own tune. Furthermore, the indie musician claims that both her song and Bieber's have several things in common. The include the heavy use of keyboard synthesizers, percussion and other similar sounds.
Moreover, Dienel further claimed that she confronted Justin Bieber last year about her concern but was neglected by him. She even warned him to stop using her vocals. The indie artist publicizes the lawsuit through Facebook on Thursday. She is claiming that "the writers, producers, and performers of 'Sorry' did not get a license for using her work, nor request for her permission to use her tune. She indicated that the singer could have licensed it, instead of sampling it.
Other names written as defendants in Hinterland's lawsuit are co-writers Julia Michaels, Justin Tranter, Sonny Moore and Michael Tucker. In a report published by TMZ, Dienel is asking for an amount of money from these people and to stop Bieber from using her tune.
Aside from the lawsuit filed by Dienel, Bieber is currently facing another a $10 million copyright lawsuit for his 2010 collaboration with Usher on "Somebody To Love."
